The Canary is a alternative media news website based in the United Kingdom. The Canary is notable in the UK for its favourable reporting of left wing figures such as Jeremy Corbyn as well as Anti-Zionism, setting it apart from traditional British bourgeois media. The websites accurate reporting and major role in Corbyn's surge in popularity during the 2017 UK general election has made it a consistent target of the right who have attempted to discredit it and deprive it of funding.
The Labour Together think-tank led by Morgan McSweeney believed that the websites rigorous reporting presented a threat to keeping their plot to depose Corbyn a secret and thus was targeted with a smear campaign. The websites reporting on the supposed antisemitism crisis in the Labour Party, that was later revealed to have been encouraged by Labour Together, was smeared as a antisemitic fake news site due to it questioning the extent of antisemitism in the party.[1]
