Blackbirding refers to a human trafficking practice in which people are kidnapped, sometimes involving false contracts and recruiting scams, and put into various forms of slavery and forced labor. The term is commonly associated with the practice in the Pacific region during the 19th and early 20th century, though that specific period is only one part of the wider context of the global slave trade it took place within.[1]
