Booker Ngesa Omole (born 25 September 1982) is the National Vice Chairperson of the Communist Party of Kenya (CPM-K). He has called for neocolonial president William Ruto to resign.[1]
Legal repression[edit | edit source]
Police arrested Omole at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on 7 September 2024 while he was on a flight to Beijing. The government seized his passport and released him after several hours after charging him with "incitement to violence."[1]
In 2025, Omole faced an assassination attempt.[2]
On February 23, 2026, according to statements issued by CPM-K, Omole was abducted by officers of the Kenya Police Service in Isiolo and transported overnight before being held at Mlolongo Police Station. According to CPM-K, Omole was brutalized, sustaining injuries including a broken tooth and a finger cut with a pen knife, as well as being dragged between locations overnight, denied food and water, and later found in what the party statement described as a traumatic state.[2][3] Commenting on the location of his detainment, Mlolongo Police Station, it was described in the statement as "a station widely feared by the masses and long associated with extra judicial killings and systematic terror against the poor and politically conscious."[3] The statement demanded Omole have access to medical care and legal council and called for an end to torture and demanded his release and for accountability of the officers responsible, and called on workers, peasants, youth, women, trade unions, student movements, human rights organisations, and all anti imperialist and democratic forces to mobilize.[3][2]
Omole was released on March 4, 2026 alongside seven other comrades. In an interview with Ahmed Kaballo of Sovereign Media after his release, Omole showed some of his injuries, which included strangulation marks on his neck. He explained that he and the others abducted with him were not arrested by police but rather "abducted by gangs" who were "not ordinary police officers" and it was only later that they identified themselves. He also reported being "very disturbed" that unidentified foreign nationals had come to see him in jail, wondering if they may be US or Israeli operatives. After Kaballo questioned whether the foreign nationals were mzungus (white people), Omole confirmed they were. Omole added that "they tried to link my person and the General Secretary’s office—and the Communist Party—with what they called a drug cartel from Caracas." Omole noted the context of the US kidnapping of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, adding, "our duty as revolutionaries across the world is to show solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution. In no way did we involve ourselves in the shipment of drugs from Latin American countries. This is a smear campaign that will be defeated." Omole called on the general public to refuse to take narratives from the government, which he again stated is engaging in a smear campaign to delegitimize the CPM-K.[4]
