The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed counter-revolutionary invasion of the Bay of Pigs inlet located in Cuba by U.S. backed forces.[1] In April 1961 an imperialist military landed, funded and trained by the USA, in Cuba with the goal of overthrowing Fidel Castro and placing an imperialist ally and dictator back into power, in response to Fulgencio Batista being ousted from power by the 26th of July Movement. The amateur militia was made up primarily of Gusanos and other Cuban exiles that were trained offshore in Guatemala.[2]
The attack was a catastrophic failure for U.S. imperialism, with the Cuban Revolutionary Army easily driving off the counter-revolutionary forces, helping to cement Castro's place as a leader and national hero of Cuba. Some suspect that the embarrassment of the imperialist world power losing to the comparatively weaker Cuba, and John F. Kennedy's subsequent removal of Allen Dulles as CIA director, led to the CIA assassinating then president Kennedy.[3] However, this has never been officially confirmed by the US government.
