Kim Il Sung (15 April 1912 – 8 July 1994) was a Korean freedom fighter and communist leader. He served as the founder and only president of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea from 1972 to 1994, and as head of the Workers' Party of Korea from 1949 to 1994. He was the father of Kim Jong-il, and the grandfather of Kim Jong-un, the current head of state of the DPRK. His ideology would later develop into the Juche idea.
