Deng Xiaoping (Chinese: 邓小平) (22 August 1904 – 19 February 1997) was a Chinese politician, most notably the Paramount Leader of the People's Republic of China from 1978 to his resignation in 1989. During his leadership, he initiated a policy of adopting elements of market economics while maintaining the governing role of the Communist Party of China, it's commitment to Marxism-Leninism and to the task of building Socialism according to the Four Cardinal Principles. He is, by such, largely associated with the idea Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, of which Deng Xiaoping Thought is a part, and is considered by many to be the "Architect of modern China". He is a controversial figure among marxists, some of them considering him to be a revisionist, mostly criticising his Opening Up and Reform policy.

Political Career
Deng Xiaoping was born in an educated land-owning family in Sichuan Province. He studied in France, where he became a Marxist-Leninist, joined the Communist Party of China in 1923 and took part in the Chinese Revolution. During his later political career, he would recall the more formative years of the Communist Party of China and its War of Resistance in the following way: <blockquote>"Now I should like to talk about our Party’s experience during the War of Resistance Against Japan. Tactics serve strategies. The years prior to the anti-Japanese war are called the period of the Agrarian Revolution. At that time we pursued a policy of confiscating land from the landlord class. After Japan stepped up its aggression against China, the national problem became the principal concern, and Japanese imperialism became our main target of attack. Under these circumstances, we had to ally ourselves with all our indirect allies in the world, which included contacts with the United States, for example. The comprador-capitalist class, previously our main target of attack, became one whom we both unite with and struggle against. Its representative was Chiang Kai-shek, with whom we co-operated to resist Japan, adopting a policy of both unity and struggle in the course of co-operation."</blockquote>After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he became the Party's Secretary General, but was purged twice during the Cultural Revolution. After Mao's death, he managed to return to political power to become the leader of the country by 1978. That same year, he initiated the Opening Up and Reform policy, emphasising the goal of the Four Modernisations, and proposed the following year to revise the Chinese constitution. Deng Xiaoping resigned from his positions in 1989, and died on 19 February 1997 of a combination of a lung infection and Parkinson's disease.

The Opening Up and Reform policy
The Opening Up and Reform policy was proposed in order to deal with the main problems the country faced at the time: namely a very poor population, the lack of an industrial base, and the lack of a large urban population (80% of the population lived in rural areas at the time). Deng Xiaoping saw that the country was still too underdeveloped to build Socialism where premature collectivization has brought antagonistic contradictions between the relations of production and the social character of the productive forces. The idea was proposed of implementing market policies in order to build the productive forces in order to eventually be able to build Socialism. In this regard, the Opening Up and Reform policy can be compared to the soviet New Economic Policy implemented by Lenin. Deng Xiaoping explained his policies in the following manner:<blockquote>"It is wrong to maintain that a market economy exists only in capitalist society and that there is only “capitalist” market economy. Why can’t we develop a market economy under socialism? Developing a market economy does not mean practising capitalism. While maintaining a planned economy as the mainstay of our economic system, we are also introducing a market economy. But it is a socialist market economy. Although a socialist market economy is similar to a capitalist one in method, there are also differences between them. The socialist market economy mainly regulates interrelations between state-owned enterprises, between collectively owned enterprises and even between foreign capitalist enterprises. But in the final analysis, this is all done under socialism in a socialist society. We cannot say that market economy exists only under capitalism. Market economy was in its embryonic stages as early as feudalist society. We can surely develop it under socialism. Similarly, taking advantage of the useful aspects of capitalist countries, including their methods of operation and management, does not mean that we will adopt capitalism. Instead, we use those methods in order to develop the productive forces under socialism. As long as learning from capitalism is regarded as no more than a means to an end, it will not change the structure of socialism or bring China back to capitalism."</blockquote>This policy lead to a period of great economic growth for the country, with a median growth of 9.2% between 1980 and 2020. Deng's policies were however criticised by some marxists, many of which maoists, who believed that Deng went too far in his liberalisation of the economy.

The government of the Republic of China retreated to Taiwan. The Communist Party of China (CPC) (in Western media it is typically written as CCP, or Chinese Communist Party) is the vanguard both of the Chinese working class and of the Chinese nation. It is guided by its ideology which is a practical application of Marxism-Leninism to the specific conditions of China. Among these ideological developments is Socialism with Chinese characteristics which emphasizes the development of China's advanced productive forces, the orientation of China's advanced culture and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people. The realization of communism is the highest ideal and ultimate goal of the Party.

History
The Communist Party of China was founded on July 23, 1921, heavily influenced by the events of the May Fourth Movement and the October Revolution. After many years of civil war in which the CPC achieved total victory in mainland China and most of the coastal islands, led the People's Liberation Army to defeat the National Army of the Republic of China, and forced the Republic of China into a military coup.

The government of the Republic of China retreated to Taiwan. Mao Zedong established the People's Republic of China in Beijing in 1949, the only ruling party in the PRC leading the Workers' and Peasants' Alliance and the United Front on behalf of the working class and exercising The People's Democratic Dictatorship in mainland China since October 1949.

Dialectical materialism is a way of understanding reality; whether thoughts, emotions, or the material world. It is a scientific methodology developed from the principles of dialectics and materialism, and is the theoretical foundation of Marxism.

Although it was a method conceived by Marx and Engels, the term dialectical materialism was never actually used by either, but appropriately summarizes their philosophical outlook.

History
In ancient Greece, dialectics was the name given to the art of argumentation. It was considered that in the course of an argument, rich in fertile ideas, the opinions of the disputing parties underwent a change and that something new and of a higher nature resulted.

Philosopher Hegel used dialectics to describe the progress of ideas (thought) through contradiction, the process of its development toward a supreme and absolute spirit.
Origin
The advent of anarchism is tied to the names of Schmidt (Stirner), Proudhon and Bakunin, whose utopian theories were subjected to criticism in the works of Marx and Engels. In the nineteenth century, anarchism spread through France, Italy and Spain.
Variations of anarchism
* Anarcho-syndicalism

Characteristics
Anarchism does not go beyond general phrases against exploitation, it does not understand what the causes of exploitation are, nor the class struggle as a creative force for the realization of socialism. The anarchist denial of political struggle contributes objectively to the subordination of the working class to bourgeois politics.

The most essential thing in the struggle against anarchism lies in the problem of how the revolution should proceed in relation to the State and in the problem of the State in general. Anarchists advocate the immediate annihilation of the State, they do not recognize that it is possible to take advantage of the bourgeois State to prepare the proletariat for the revolution.

After 1917, anarchism in Russia became a counter-revolutionary tendency. Historically, Anarchism saw brief surges in popularity in Catalonia, the Free Territory in Ukraine and in the Korean Peninsula. Today, it enjoys a certain influence in the United States and Europe.

Distinctions between Marxists and Anarchists
The essential distinctions in the criteria of Marxists and anarchists were reduced by Lenin to three fundamental points:

*In that the first, whose end is the complete withering away of the State, acknowledge that this end can only be achieved after the socialist revolution has abolished classes as a result of the establishment of socialism. The latter, on the other hand, want to completely destroy the State overnight, without understanding the conditions in which this destruction can take place.
*The first acknowledge the need for the proletariat, after conquering political power, to totally destroy the former State machine, replacing it with a new one. The latter advocate the destruction of the state machine and have an absolutely confused idea of what the proletariat must replace the machine with and how it will exercise revolutionary power. Anarchists reject even the use of state power by the revolutionary proletariat, their revolutionary dictatorship.
* The first demand that the proletariat prepare for revolution by taking advantage of the modern State, while anarchists reject it.
We are guided by Marxism-Leninism, mainly the works of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin.

We fully support the currently developing dictatorships of the proletariat in:
*Republic of Cuba
*People's Republic of China
*Democratic People's Republic of Korea
*Socialist Republic of Vietnam
*Lao People's Democratic Republic
We are critical of the political line of these states, but we critically support these nations for their defiance of NATO imperialism:
*Venezuela
*Russia
*Syria
*Bolivia
ProleWiki strives to be free to users and be governed by its contributors
The mission of the ProleWiki is to provide free and accessible information and works relevant to the understanding of marxism-leninism.

ProleWiki encourages the free copying and re-distribution of all materials on the site. You can publish copyrighted material, as long as it adheres to our editorial conventions. Each aspect of our project can be democratically established, however, our project shall never decide for its own dissolution.

ProleWiki strives for collective ownership
ProleWiki strives to never be owned by any individual person, and to always promote collective ownership of the website.

ProleWiki will never carry advertisements or tracking software, and will always strive to preserve the safety of our comrades.

ProleWiki strives for criticism and self-criticism
Let us remind ourselves that free criticism does not mean the liberal-bourgeois idea of "free speech". We should openly repress:
*Reactionary language, or language with a purposeful intention of promoting any kind of oppression.
*Chauvinism, or promoting the idea of one group of people being better than a different group of people.

Self-criticism is not only accepted but encouraged.

ProleWiki should be guided by the philosophical outlook of Marxism-Leninism
GenSun:

In dialectics, a contradiction is formed when two requirements are met:

# Two things must be diametrically opposed
# And one cannot exist without the other

For example: in warfare, attack and defence form a contradiction; without an attack, there is no need for defence (rule 2) and also, defence is the opposite of attack (rule 1).

Note that diametrically opposed does not necessarily mean the literal opposite. The bourgeoisie and proletariat are in contradiction: one cannot exist without the other, and their class interests are diametrically opposed (the bourgeoisie wants to exploit the proletariat, and the proletariat wants to destroy the bourgeoisie as a class so as to liberate themselves).

Contradictions exist everywhere in the world and in many different domains, and it is the solving of contradictions (or the apparition of new ones) that drive change in the general sense of the term, thus dialectics happen.

Chairman Mao Zedong talked at length about contradictions and is a good starting place for theory.

Primary and secondary contradictions
Contradictions are separated into primary and secondary categories. Secondary contradictions are dependent on primary ones, and solving the primary contradiction solves the secondary contradiction.

Some think, for example, that solving class contradictions (moving into communism, a classless society) will also solve several secondary contradictions attached such as: racism, homophobia, sexism, selfishness, etc. This is an example of primary and secondary contradictions. For others, it is impossible to solve secondary contradictions without addressing the primary contradiction.

Solving contradictions
A contradiction is solved when it stops existing; i.e. when both rules stop being applicable.

Thus the proletariat will stop existing as a class when the bourgeoisie stops existing. However, in that scenario, one of two things may happen:

# Another contradiction takes its place
# The contradiction is solved for good

In this example, it means that the proletariat may be replaced by another class -- but inevitably, so will the bourgeoisie (much like how serfs and nobles were replaced by capitalist social classes). Thus another contradiction would take place between these two classes. Or classes could stop existing at all, which would usher in a classless era and solve class contradictions for good (since there are no more classes).

Capitalism is a social system based on the private ownership of the means of production and private expropriation of socially produced wealth. The main feature of capitalism is the exploitation of the workers by the bourgeoisie through wage-slavery.

Definition
The definition of capitalism varies. The term "social system" is used here, because the capitalist mode of production also determines its political and cultural superstructure.
Idealist Definitions
Capitalism may be defined by its adherents as a combination of free markets, private property, competitive markets, voluntary exchange and wage labor. This and similar definitions carry limitations that prevents capitalist adherents from seeing capitalism as a whole to include the lengths taken by the bourgeoisie to preserve and perpetuate its system and their profits, leading to denial of atrocities like the Bengal Famine or the Pinochet regime as 'not real capitalism'.

Contradictions
The fundamental contradiction of Capitalism is that between the social character of production and the private capitalist form of appropriating the product of labor. This contradiction expresses the profound antagonism between wage labor and capital, between the developing productive forces and the capitalist relations of production which shackle them. As the modern productive forces, based on large mechanized industry, develop, production becomes more and more concentrated, the social division of labor progresses, leading to a widening and intensification of the economic links between the various enterprises and branches of the economy.

During the production of each commodity, there is, directly or indirectly, participation of enterprises of different branches of production and hundreds of thousands to millions of workers, grouped in the capitalist enterprises. The process of production and work, through the development of productive forces is increasingly socialized. However, both production and its results do not belong to those who are really its creators — the workers — but to private persons, to the capitalists, who use the social wealth for profit, and not in the interest of society as a whole.

History
With the advent of the 1980s, there was "a surge in economic and legal reforms in developed and emerging markets alike that prioritized markets over government in allocating economic resources, a process that was further galvanized by the disappearance of the iron curtain and the collapse of socialism."

Governments Under Capitalism
Under capitalism, the law is placed firmly "in the service of capital." As Professor of Comparative Law at Columbia Law School Katharina Pistor further elucidates: "Through its courts, bailiffs, and police forces, states enforce not only their own commands, but also private property rights and the binding commitments private parties make to one another. This does not mean that state power is omnipresent. As long as the threat of coercive law enforcement is sufficiently credible, voluntary compliance can be achieved without mobilizing it in every case."

GenSun: /* Definition */

Capitalism is a social system based on the private ownership of the means of production and private expropriation of socially produced wealth. The main feature of capitalism is the exploitation of the workers by the bourgeoisie through wage-slavery.

Definition
The definition of capitalism varies. The term "social system" is used here, because the capitalist mode of production also determines its political and cultural superstructure.
Idealist Definitions
Capitalism may be defined by its adherents as a combination of free markets, private property, competitive markets, voluntary exchange and wage labor. This and similar definitions carry limitations that prevents capitalist adherents from seeing capitalism as a whole to include the lengths taken by capitalists to preserve, perpetuate and maintain its system, leading to denial of atrocities like the Bengal Famine or the Pinochet regime as 'not real capitalism'.

GenSun: /* Nazi Germany */

Fascism is a reactionary ideology based on class collaboration (the opposite of the class struggle). In practice, however, the fascists promoted policies that caused even more exploitation of the working class, allowing the “free market” to take over every aspect of society. So much so that The Economist magazine introduced the term privatization, unseen in political discourse at the time, to describe Nazi Germany's economic policies.

Throughout history, the most important traits of fascism, besides the religious defense of unrestrained free market, is the fervent anticommunism and ultranationalism. Fascism, generally, advocates for the supremacy of a particular group of people - usually calling themselves a race - over all other groups, and employs the use of violent suppression and terror against anyone they deem "undesirable". These extremely reactionary ideas directly contradict the fundamentals of communism and Marxism, and as a result, communism is a favourite boogeyman for fascists, used as a scapegoat for all of one's problems to turn against.
Mechanics of fascism
Fascism is the result of the contradictions of capitalism heightening to their highest point, ultimately leading it into crisis.

In such a state, where the failures of capitalism become plain to see and the proletariat must endure them, fascism becomes the armed wing of capitalism so as to restore capitalism, or perish. Fascism is a bourgeois ideology, and it turns to class collaboration to restore order: in such a system, every individual is expected to have their place and be content in it. Business owners sign huge deals with the government, while workers are expected to work more for less.

Indeed, while fascism promises the restoration of all that made the country great and glorious, it delivers instead huge hardships on the workers, preferring to enrich its bourgeoisie as well as its political class (who are often one and the same).

A minority group is designated as the enemy so as to appeal to bourgeois ideals of race and tradition, while allowing for slave (or near-slave) labour from the affected group.

As fascism requires very lavish results (or the illusions of results) to keep its legitimacy among the people, it must reach very high economic growth in a short time. This is usually done with unsound economic policies (for example the MEFO bills in Nazi Germany) that work in the short-term but will heavily backfire in the long-term. As such, fascism will eventually turn to war and conquest so as to pillage and enslave, and thus restore somewhat stable economic growth.

Because of this, and because of the always-present contradictions of capitalism, fascism is sometimes considered a death cult -- that is, an ideology that will eventually lead its adherents to their death.

In the materialist analysis, it is understood that people turn towards fascism as they feel unfit in society and are scared of the future (no doubt helped by propaganda efforts). We understand that socialism, specifically Marxism-Leninism, is the cure to preventing people from being sucked in by fascism.

In effect, fascism will exist as long as capitalism does, because capitalism is full of contradictions that it cannot fix (like the class struggle since capitalism requires class society). The only way to destroy fascism as an ideology is to move past capitalism.
Social fascism
Stalin first described social fascism in Concerning the International Situation. According to him, social democrats objectively form the moderate wing of fascism, as they prevent people from moving further left towards communism while advocating for capitalism. Since fascism will exist as long as capitalism does, social democrats are in effect enabling fascists (and indeed historically, often siding with them over actual socialists).
Fascist countries
Past
Fascist Italy
Austrofascism
Nazi Germany
Nazi Germany, officially the Third Reich (Third Empire), was beaten into dissolution by the Soviet Union after the Battle of Berlin in May 1945.
Present
2019 coup in Bolivia
President Evo Morales of Bolivia was reelected to this office in October 2019 with 47,08% of total votes. Soon after, opposing fascists called the results into question, helped by fraudulent reports from the Organisation of American States (OAS), which led to their paramilitary wing causing violence in the streets. After three weeks, Morales agreed to step down and left the country.

Later, accusations of electoral fraud were completely debunked by the same journals that initially reported on them, trusting the OAS.

The new government, led by Jeanine Añez, established a military junta in the country so as to dismantle popular support for MAS (Morales' party). They pushed elections back three times, eventually having them take place in November 2020, a full year after the coup. Their efforts failed, as MAS won the presidential election in 2020 with 55% of all votes (under candidate Luis Arce).

Since his election, Arce's government has announced that they would effectively purge the military's leadership, as their treason was pivotal in letting the coup succeed.
Online fascism
Fascists in the 21st century have taken to propagandize over the Internet, usually looking for marginalized teens who don't fit in with their peers. It is known that they have organised groups working towards that goal on several websites and even video games.

The alt-right is a political movement that is also synonymous with online fascism. The alt-right as a whole typically advocates for the establishment of a white fascist state, where people of colour (along usually with LGBT+ people) are either second class citizens or are flat out genocided, depending on how "extreme" of an alt-rightist one is. The alt-right as a movement has grown considerably since its origins in the early 2010s to an almost mainstream level, due in part to the movement's employment of dog whistles and other covert tactics by its members to disguise their true beliefs.

More fringe examples of online fascism include those associated with the (now defunct) Iron March website, a self-proclaimed fascist and neo-Nazi forum that helped found the terrorist group Atomwaffen Division, which aims to overthrow the US government and establish a white fascist state in its place. However these types of people - those that only subscribe to hardcore Nazi rhetoric - are certainly not the only type of fascists out there. Fascism comes in many different forms - almost always much more covertly - and Nazism is only one of them.

History
The Communist Party of China (CPC) was founded on July 23, 1921, after many years of civil war in which the Communist Party of China (CPC) achieved total victory in mainland China and most of the coastal islands, led the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to defeat the National Army of the Republic of China (ROC), and forced the Republic of China (ROC) into a military coup.

The government of the Republic of China retreated to Taiwan. Mao Zedong established the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Beijing in 1949, the only ruling party in the PRC leading the Workers' and Peasants' Alliance and the United Front on behalf of the working class and exercising the people's democratic dictatorship in mainland China since October 1949.
